The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the list of specimens and equipment to be used by School Candidates who have to write science practicals in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The list below consists of specimens and equipment for Biology Practical. Schools approved for the exams are expected to use these to prepare ahead of this exam.
Please, take not that this is no way a form of examination malpractice as it was officially made available by WAEC. We have provided the specimens for preparation purpose only.
The WASSCE 2018 Specimens for Biology Practical are listed below:
WAEC Biology Practical Specimens 2018
Group I (For all candidates)
Specimen A: Fresh/wet preserved mosquito larva in a petri dish containing water.
Specimen B: Fresh/wet preserved maggot in a petri dish containing water.
Specimen C: Gill of fish (freshly procured) in a petri dish containing water.
Specimen D: Lung of a small mammal(freshly preserved).
Specimen E: Dicotyledonous leaf (freshly plucked).
Specimen F: Membranous wing of a cockroach.
Group II
Specimens under group two are for candidates in Ghana only.
Group III (For candidates in Nigeria and the Gambia only)
Specimen K: Flower of pride of Barbados or caesalpinia.
Specimen L: Mature Elephant grass or Guinea grass.
Specimen M: Flower of Hibiscus plant.
Note:
(i) All specimens can be provided as group specimens for five(5) to ten(10) candidates.
(ii) All specimens in each group must carry individual labels (Eg A, B, C, D, E and F in Group I).
Biology Materials
It is essential that each candidate should be provided with the following materials:
Glass jar cover or petri dish; scalpel or razor blade; a beaker containing water; a pair of forceps; magnifying lens or hand lens.
