Cheesy Google Doodle |
The latest design of Google Doodle is perfectly created to recognise the creator of one of the most delicious cheeses which is mostly used to grace tables throughout the world.
Google has been noted for displaying doodles meant for important days in history. It ranges from holidays doodles such as "Tis The Season" to doodles specially design to remember some of the inventors, as seen in the doodle for invention of The World-famous Waterproof Raincoat and the Cheesy Google Doodle above.
Marie Harel is credited as the inventor of Camembert, a rich soft cheese that is particularly tasty when baked, and she kicked the bucket hundreds of years ago.
Background of Marie Herel
Marie Harel was born Marie Catherine Fontaine in April 28, 1761 in Crouttes, near Vimoutiers in Normandy, France.
She was a cheesemaker, and according to local legend, is the creator of Camembert cheese, along with Abbot Charles-Jean Bonvoust.
She worked making cheese at the Manor of Beaumoncel and died on November 9, 1844.
Why is it that Google choose to celebrate Marie Herel?
Marie Herel became famous when a monk fleeing presecution during the French Revolution, came to the Manor of Beaumoncel in the village of Camembert on his way to seek asylum and protection. He met Herel and – impressed with her cheeses – gave her a recipe used in his region which made a crust around the soft cheese.
As a result her cheeses were easier to transport from market to market and the taste and texture were changed. This made her business flourish and she became more popular to the extent that she was known throughout the universe. Today, Google is celebrating her, and this reminds us that a little thing we do can take us to a height where we will be known by the world.
What is Camembert?
Camembert |
Camembert is a soft, creamy, surface-ripened cow’s milk cheese. The cheese was famously issued to French troops during the First World War, and its fame spread throughout the world from there.
Happy Marie Herel Remembrance Day!
