Charles Macintosh was a Scottish Chemist who was born on the 29th of December, 1766. He found the need of having protective clothes against the rain. This pushed him to seek for materials to use for this clothes. He arrived at the idea of rubberising.
Charles Macintosh finally got to the point of designing one of the first waterproof fabrics by rubberising sheets of material in his textile factory. This brought a finished product which was later named Macintosh coat and was first sold in 1824. That is, named after the inventor Charles Macintosh.
Google have decided to honour the 250th birthday celebration of the Glaswegian with a lovely doodle as seen above.
