The second tune up game in Rivers United FC final phase of pre-season tour in Spain against the CD Roda club ended in a score draw.
A match that was characterised by a fast football style of play saw CD Roda and Rivers United FC netting a total of six goals with three goals apiece at the end of the game. That is, CD Roda 3 - 3 Rivers United FC.
The 2015/2016 NPFL season Runner-up and Super Four Cup winner, Rivers United FC was ahead on two occasions but goals from Nadal, Grace and Gomez of CD Roda left the tie to settle for a draw. It was Ricardo Gomez strike deep into the second half added time that prevented the Spanish club from suffering a defeat in a cracking pre-season friendly match played at Estadio Ciudad Deportivo Pamesa on Monday, 19th December, 2016.
Rivers United FC came into the encounter seeking victory against the amateur side from Spain. Consequently, they started well in the match by getting a lead inside the opening 10 minutes of the Monday Night Football. Emeka Ogbugh was the hero at this early stage of the game.
CD Roda did not have to wait for the second half of the game to come before getting an equalizer. Hence, they suddenly put up a resolute battle which helped them to equalized moments later after Festus Austin, under pressure, bundled the ball from Xisco Nadal strike past Abiodun Akande in goal for the "Pride of Rivers". The score stood at 1 - 1 after first half of the friendly match.
CD Roda resumed the second half of the game with a promising attacking style of play. This was quickly followed by a reward when Charly Grace Garcia smashed the ball into the back of the net to put his side one goal ahead of Rivers United FC in the 51st minutes of the game.
The NPFL club side stepped up their game and began to take advantage of the encounter. This paid off immediately when Godbless Asamoah's stunner gave Eguma's team a 2 - 2 scoreline.
A game noted for both physicality and counter attack produced the fifth goal when Nzube Anaezemba scored for Rivers United FC to give the Nigerian club a lead for the second time in the match.
Rivers United FC could not hold off the pressure from CD Roda in the dying minutes of the contest. This leads to Ricardo Gomez popped up to plunder a barely-deserved equalizer for the home team to left the tie 3 - 3 on the scoreboard.
However, the result have shown that Nigerians should expect something positive from Rivers United FC in the forthcoming CAF Champions League.
