Supreme Court Upheld Udom's Election

The whole premises of the Supreme Court in Abuja, Nigeria were surrounded by men of timbers and calibres awaiting the judgement of the election tribunal for Akwa Ibom State and Abia State governorship elections.

In the vicinity were decorations that so much look like those meant for independent day celebrations. The traditional colours of green and white which represents the natural wealth and peace were used.

The Supreme Court ruling of Wednesday 3rd February, 2016 for the governorship elections was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed who hails from Jalingo in Taraba State.

In the words of Napoleon Hill, "victory is always possible for a person who refuses to stop fighting". This was the case of Governor Udom Emmanuel whose election as governor was nullified by the Appeal Court. He did not relent in taking the case further. The Supreme Court was his next destination for a supreme and devine ruling.

The battle was said to be as a result of the APC's intention to rule the oil-rich state. Obong Umana Okon Umana who was the former Secretary to the state government during the previous administration got backups from different sources so that the Will of the APC be fulfilled.

The Akwa Ibom State election petition tribunal sitting in the Appeal Court ordered a rerun in eighteen of the Thirty-one LGAs. The APC candidate, Obong Umana filed in another case to the Appeal Court seeking the nullification of elections in all the local government areas of the state. This might have been as a result of dominant position of PDP in those 18 LGAs that elections were cancelled. The appeal favoured the APC candidate and the election nullified in the entire state.

The Supreme Court ruling took over 13 hours and was filled with tensions. But the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio saunters in the court when people have started to feel dizzy and acclaim his name; Oh Akpabio, Goodness me! This sent the entire premises into sparks, men from different tribes started to cheer up and women began to dance and the whole place was lively again. It was an acclamation to the victory that is to come in a short while.

Governor Udom has been relying on the Supreme God for victory. This was actualised when the Supreme God stepped into the affairs of men through the supreme court and the devine mandate of the good people of Akwa Abasi Ibom State, that is the election of Udom Emmanuel as governor has been upheld.
