NPL Champions Enyimba FC Succumbed To An Inevitable Defeat To Akwa United In Match Day Two Of NPFL Super Four Tournament



The Nigerian League Champions Enyimba FC of Aba succumbed to an inevitable 1 -  0 defeat to the promising team from Uyo, Akwa United FC. Akwa United FC is the current holders of the Nigerian Federation Cup 2015. 

The Nigerian Professional Football League Super Four tournament consists of two rounds. The first round is currently taking place at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. 

Second leg matches for the first round kicked off by 2pm with an entertaining encounter between Enyimba FC and Akwa United FC. 

Akwa United lineup for the match includes Bassey Akpan who stood in for Kayode in the goal mouth. Others are Nnamso Edo, Otobong Effiong, Emeka Isaac, Godspower Igudia, Harrison Ibukun, Friday Ubong, Michael Ibe, Ubong Ekpai, Cyril Olisemah, Kufre Ebong. Substitutes; Olufemi Kayode, Samuel Okon, Johnson Jauh, Ini Akpan, Aniekan Ekpe, Kounnou Paterne and Franklyn Ebong. 

Enyimba FC starting eleven for the game included the following players; Moses Ocheje, Ifeanyi George, Uwadiegwu Ugwu, Rasak Aliyu, Chinedu Udoji, Uche John, Mfon Udoh, Ugochukwu Leonard, Musa Najare, Nzube Anaezemba and Daniel Etor. 

The only goal of the highly competitive match came in the 17th minutes of regulation time through a powerful header from Harrison Ibukun. Ubong Ekpai would have doubled the lead in the 48th minutes, but failed to deliver. 

A red card was awarded to Akwa United FC coach Maurice Cooreman and was sent to the stands for dissent.

Enyimba's Etor was outstanding, but Akwa United number one man, Bassey Akpan took his stand in the midst of the goal bar to deal with every volley that came his way. 

The match ended after the full regulation time with additional 3 minutes. 

The final leg for the first round of the tournament will be played on Sunday, 24th January, 2016.
