UNILAG Admission Requirements For Faculty Of Law
The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Faculty of Arts Admission Requirements for candidates who chose the institution as first choice university and scored 200 and above in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Both UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates are to get their credentials ready for 2016/2017 admission screening.

Faculty of Arts

(1) Department: Creative Arts

Direct Entry Requirements: Very good passes in three JUPEB/A level subjects:
  • Theatre Arts: Literature in English and any two of Igbo, Yoruba, CRS/IRS, French, History, Government, Music and Visual Arts.
  • Visual Arts: Visual Arts, and any two of Literature-in-English, Igbo, Yoruba CRS/IRS, French, History, Government and Music.
  • Music: Music and any two from Lit- In English, Igbo/Yoruba, CRS/IRS, French, History, Government, Economics Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics and Visual Arts.
  • Also accepts HND/OND at Upper Credit Level in Drama/Theatre and Music; NCE Music and Diploma or Advanced Level in Music from the Royal School of Music, London/ Trinity College, London/Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) and Mountain Top Music School Lagos.
Entry Requirements (O'Level): For Theatre Arts and Visual Arts: Five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Literature-in-English/Fine Arts/Visual Arts and two (2) other related subject one of which must be an Arts Subject. For Music: Five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and one Arts Subject which may include Music and any other two subjects in Science or Social Science.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English, Any one of Fine Arts, Literature-in-English, Music one additional Arts subject and any other Science or Social Science subject. Lagos accepts one Arts subject and any other two subjects in the Arts, Science or Social Sciences for MUSIC.


(2) Department: English

Direct Entry Requirements: Very good passes in three JUPEB/A level subjects:
  • Literature in English and any two of Igbo, Yoruba, CRS, IRS, History, Government, Music, Fine Arts and French.
  • Lagos requires A/Level passes to include Literature-in-English, with not less than grade D and one other Arts subject to be chosen from Religious Studies, French, Yoruba, Igbo, History and Hausa.
Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credit passes in English, Mathematics, Literature-in-English, and any two other subjects from Yoruba, Igbo, French, History, Government, CRS/IRS.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English, Literature-in-English and any two of the following subjects: Yoruba, CRS/IRS, French, History and Government.


(3) Department: European Languages

- French

Direct Entry Requirements:
  • Very good passes in JUPEB/ A Level subjects: French and any two of Igbo, Yoruba, CRS, IRS, History, Government, Literature- in- English, Music and Fine Arts.
  • NCE in French/NFLV, Diploma/ Diplôme Supérieur (MODULE III), DALF (France), CEGEP (Canada), Baccalaureate, CAP AND BTS.
Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credit passes in Mathematics, English, and any other three subjects from Arts or Social Science (However a candidate must show evidence of proficiency in French Language by presenting French Proficiency II of University of Lagos/UNILAG Pre-degree French, DELF/DL, BEPC or their equivalent during registration.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English and any other three subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. English and any other three subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. 

- Russian

Direct Entry Requirements:
  • Very good pass in JUPEB/A Level subjects: Any three of French, Igbo, Yoruba, CRS, IRS, History, Government, Literature- in -English, Music and Fine Arts.
  • Two A'level passes in Arts or Social Sciences or in both.
  • Candidates must satisfy O/Level requirement. 
Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credit in English, Mathematics and three other Arts or Social Science subjects. Credit passes in any European, Asian or African Language is an advantage. 

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English and any other three subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. English and any other three subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.


(4) Department: History & Strategic Studies

Direct Entry Requirements:
  • Very good passes in three JUPEB / A Level subjects: History and/or Government and any two or one of, Igbo, Yoruba, CRS, IRS, Literature- in- English, French, Music and Fine Arts.
Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credit in English, Mathematics, History/Government and any other one Arts subject from Literature-in-English, CRS/IRS, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. French DELF/DL/BEPC or their equivalents during registration.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English, History and/ or Government and any other two or one Arts or Social Science subject.


(5) Department: Linguistics, African and Asian Studies

- Linguistics/Igbo

Direct Entry Requirements:
  • Very good passes in three JUPEB/ A level subjects in Yoruba/Igbo and any two of History, IRS/CRS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature- in -English.
  • NCE (Merit) in two subjects to include a Nigerian Language.
  • LASU Diploma in Communication Arts.
  • Candidates must also satisfy the O/Level requirement. 
Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credits to include English, Mathematics and three other subjects from Arts, Science or Social Sciences. A credit pass in Yoruba/Igbo may be an added advantage.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English and any other three subjects from Arts, Science or Social Science. English, and any other three subjects from Arts, Science or Social Science.

- Linguistics/Yoruba

Direct Entry Requirements:
  • Very good passes in three JUPEB /A'level in subjects in Yoruba/Igbo and any two of History, IRS, CRS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature-in-English.
  • NCE (Merit) in two subjects to include a Nigerian Language.
  • LASU Diploma in Communication Arts.
  • Candidates must also satisfy O'Level requirement.

- Chinese

Direct Entry Requirements: Lagos does not accept Direct Entry.

Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credit in English, Mathematics and three other subjects from Arts, Social Science or Sciences.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English and any other three subjects from Arts, Social Science or Science.


(6) Department: Philosophy

Direct Entry Requirements:
  • Very good passes in three JUPEB/ A Level subjects: Any three of Literature in English, Igbo, Yoruba, CRS, IRS, French, History, Economics, Government, Chemistry, Physics, Biology but at least one Arts subject.
  • Related fields with a minimum of 55% average score.
  • NCE credit in Two (2) teaching subjects one of which must be Art.
  • Candidates must also satisfy „O‟ Level requirement.
Entry Requirements (O'Level): Five O/Level credit in English, Mathematics, and at least One Art subject and any other Arts/Social Science/Science subject.

UTME (JAMB) SUBJECTS: English, one Art subject and any other two subjects from Arts, Social Science or Science.
