First Bank Relocates From Uyo Plaza By Oron Road

The most valued financial house in the heart of the city of Uyo yesterday relocated from its previous business centre to a new location in Aka Road, Uyo.

It was reported in September, 2015 that First Bank, Ibom Plaza branch by Oron Road, Uyo was sealed off since the bank could not pay its rent for the building used in transacting finance related businesses.

A High Court on 22nd September, 2015 gave ruling to a case between the landlord and the financial institution, ordering the bank to pay damages to the tune of Two Hundred and Two Thousand Naira (N202,000) within the next one hour.

First Bank could not afford to pay the amount at the given time interval, therefore the banking Hall and its premises were sealed off. Customers were negatively affected with this development, as they incurred stress of going to another branch, as well as, paying excess money on transportation.

Due to the location of the financial institution in the centre of Akwa Ibom State capital, the bank gathers the greatest influx of customers day by day. Huge number of customers were always seen doing one or two transactions in the banking Hall or outside the banking Hall.

Users of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards were always seen gathering outside in long queues at different ATM stands to withdraw money, deposit money or check their account balance. This is because of the bank's policy that customers withdrawing below a Hundred Thousand Naira should use the ATM for such transaction, and depositing with the use of ATM due to the long depositors queues inside the bank.

People complained about having to stand for several hours, as there were limited number of seats inside the bank. The low leveled fence outside the Hall used by customers to sit down sometimes were sprayed with black paint to ensure that customers do not sit on it.

The bank's act of providing services to customers without failure notice ensures that customers come back to the bank branch to do business.

What is likely going to be the effect of this relocation? Let's have your views below.
